Jonny WALKER: Mr. First Corner

In 2023, the promoters of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship have decided to reward, with their partner Airoh, the riders who have mastered the art of getting off to a good start. This season, the Airoh Holeshot will reward the driver(s) who cross the first corner in the lead. This reward will be awarded in the queen category: the Prestige but also in the Junior category in order to give extra motivation to the young SuperEnduro class.

Budapest's track configuration made the holshot challenge even more interesting than usual. The pilots would have to show patience and skill to pass under the Airoh gate first. The first corner is located a few hundred meters from the start, which means that the pilots are already arriving with speed. So you have to find the compromise between arriving too fast and missing the apex of the first corner or being too far back and seeing the whole pack pass you by. In this little game, Jonny WALKER (GBR-Beta) once again proved to be the most skilful. However, it was the 2022 Junior World Champion, Dominik OLSZOWY (POL-GASGAS) who had the best start in the first final. WALKER is third under the gate. The start of the race between the two men followed by Cody WEBB (USA-Sherco) is superb. But in the end it was the indestructible Billy BOLT (GBR-Husqvarna) who won the round. For the second reversed-grid final, the surprise came from Jordan SCOTT (GBR-TM), replacing a wounded Blake GUTZEIT, who won the race to turn 1. The favorites find themselves a little locked behind, but BOLT takes the lead and wins the most contested race of the evening.

Jonny WALKER made the difference in the last final of the evening. Signing the holeshot with great skill and authority. On the other hand, he could do nothing to counter the attacks of Cody WEBB and Billy BOLT who finished ahead of him at the checkered flag.

In Junior, Milan SCHMUESER (GER-Sherco) retains his hegemony in mastering starts. The German rider manages to grab two of the three holeshots of the evening. He remains behind in the championship in the wake of the two BRIGHTMORE (GBR-GASGAS) brothers. Mitch and Ashton are still ahead of him in the standings. The German will have to toughen up his game during the next round in Jerusalem on March 2.
