All Change Again for the 24MX Leader Plate!

Without doubt, this 2020 season is bringing us more and more excitement with every passing round. Last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix was no exception, with enough drama to see the 24MX Leader Plates change hands in both classes…

In Prestige, Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL - KTM) arrived at the Coliseum da Coruña with an 11 point lead on Billy BOLT (GB - Husqvarna), but the factory KTM rider never felt comfortable on the Spanish track and he struggled to contain a buoyant BOLT. The young Brit put in a perfect performance, taking all 63 points available! And while BLAZUSIAK managed to claim the 3rd step on the overall podium (2/4/3), the Pole couldn’t stop BOLT from taking back the 24MX Leader Plate! The factory Husqvarna rider now has 6 points on BLAZUSIAK, as Jonny WALKER (GB - KTM) is relegated to 33 points. Alfredo GOMEZ (E - Husqvarna) and Blake GUTZEIT (RSA - KTM) round out the Top 5. It’s impossible to predict what will happen next between BOLT and BLAZUSIAK with two rounds still to come. And not forgetting that WALKER remains close behind - afterall, in the past we saw former rider Colton HAAKER win a title from 30 points down!

In the Junior class, it was a nightmarish evening for Ty CULLINS (USA - TM). The American, who had a 15-point lead over Leon HENTSCHEL (D - Husqvarna) before the Iberian GP, struggled on the Spanish track (6/7/11). He had to see the 24MX Leader Plate handed over to his German rival. After a very solid third round (3/3/5), HENTSCHEL will arrive in Budapest in two weeks with a 5 points lead ahead of CULLINS. But Teodor KABAKCHIEV (B - KTM) is also looking keen for the crown, the overall winner in A Coruña (2/1/2), the Bulgarian is a key part of the title race at only 13 points behind HENTSCHEL. With another podium in Spain, Adrien JACON (F - KTM) could also claim the title if he works on his speed, while Milan SCHMUESER (D - Sherco) also found himself in the Top 5 at the expense of Dominik OLSZOWY (PL - KTM)...

The race for the Prestige and Junior titles remains very open and it would not be surprising to see the 24MX Leader Plates change hands again next week at the Papp Laszlo Sportarena in Budapest! Stay tuned!
